DibDab is a free audio story app. This policy explains what we collect when you use the DibDab app, dibdab.xyz and Cowriter, why we collect it, and the choices you have. The short version
- You don’t need an account to listen.
- Your birthday, listening history, reactions and drafts stay on your phone.
- We only receive what you send us: stories you submit, reports, and your email if you join the waitlist.
- DibDab is free because of ads. Our ad partner may use your device’s advertising ID if you allow tracking.
- We don’t sell your personal information for money.
What we collect

We don’t collect your precise location, contacts, photos or microphone audio. When you share a quote card, it goes through your phone’s share sheet. When you take a screenshot, DibDab only notices that it happened so it can offer a share card; it never sees the image.
Who we share it with
- Cloudflare hosts dibdab.xyz, our media and our data.
- Google Cloud turns story text into narration. Submitted stories are sent to Google only once they’re accepted for voicing.
- AppLovin provides rewarded ads. See AppLovin’s privacy policy.
- Payment providers, only for writers and reward winners we pay.
- Authorities, if the law requires it or to protect someone’s safety.
- A new owner, if DibDab is sold or merges, under this policy.
Published stories show your pen name, not your email.
Ads and tracking
On iPhone, DibDab asks before your advertising ID is used to track you across other companies’ apps. If you say no, you still get ads, just not personalised ones, and every chapter can still be unlocked. You can change this any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
Some US state laws treat personalised advertising as “sharing” personal information. Saying no to tracking opts you out. You can also email us to opt out.
Children and teens
DibDab is for ages 13 and up. Our age gate blocks anyone who says they’re under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think a child has sent us information, email [email protected] and we’ll delete it. Listeners aged 13 to 17 can’t submit stories, enter the reward or earn money, and DibDab doesn’t personalise ads for them.
How long we keep it
- Data on your device: until you delete the app.
- Stories that aren’t accepted: deleted 12 months after review.
- Published stories: kept while they’re on DibDab.
- Reports: kept for 2 years.
- Waitlist emails: kept until launch or until you unsubscribe.
- Payment and tax records: kept as long as the law requires.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, download or delete your information, or object to how we use it, by emailing [email protected]. We reply within 30 days. Depending on where you live, including the UK, the EU and US states like California, you may have extra rights and can complain to your data protection regulator. We use your information because you asked us to (for example, when you submit a story), for our legitimate interests in running and securing DibDab, with your consent (for tracking), or because the law requires it.
International transfers and security
Our providers may process information outside your country, including in the United States, with safeguards such as standard contractual clauses. We use encryption in transit and limit who can access your information, but no system is perfectly secure.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date above. For significant changes we’ll tell you in the app.
